Training Strategy

“Take the teachings that you heard me proclaim in the presence of many witnesses, and entrust them to reliable people, who will be able to teach others also.”
2 Tim 2:2

In order to bring about transformation in Africa, this generation of children should be taught the Word of God so that they will know how to walk in His ways. To achieve this, leaders in children’s ministry should be equipped and empowered to train others who will be able to also train others. Patrick Johnstone, author of Operation World, said about the church in Africa, “Leadership training is the critical bottleneck and is limited at every level.”

Petra College renders training services to church denominations and Christian organisations within a training strategy of partnerships, agreed upon with their executive leadership on national level. The college focuses on leadership training in children’s ministry for church and missions leaders up to the level of a children’s ministry mentor. A mentor is a leader within a church or mission organisation, whom Petra College has equipped to plan and manage the children’s ministry in his/her church or organisation on national level and will eventually do it independently of Petra College. This would also include the training others to minister to children. To achieve this, leaders in children’s ministry have to successfully complete prerequisite training in the Children’s Ministry Foundations course of Petra College.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is granted on merit to candidates who received previous training in children’s ministry from other organisations.
