As prerequisite training for preparation and admission to the Children's Ministry Mentorship course, the college presents a number of Children's Ministry Foundations courses (12 days) in different countries, depending on demand and training strategy.
The Children’s Ministry Foundations Courses 1 & 2 of Petra College give students the skills to reach out to children, communicate with them and guide them in the process of spiritual growth in the Lord. There is an emphasis on play, story telling, music and other ways to communicate with children; to build relationships with them and show them love and develop their creative abilities as well as lead them to the Lord. Attention is given to ways of using the Bible effectively to help each child grow in his relationship with God. (Well known aspects, such as Teaching Principles and Bible Lesson, etc., are therefore presented with the emphasis on how to prepare it and communicate it on the child's level in ways that they will understand and enjoy it, and even participate in it. The end goal, however, is not only that the children should understand, but to guide them to a life change in Christ.)
During training, students daily have opportunities to apply in practice with children what they learn in principle. Feedback, demonstrations, reflection, evaluating and discussion all form part of the process in the class.
This will serve the process of getting candidates ready for the Children's Ministry Mentorship Course, which is on an advanced level. It will also serve as example how Foundations training in Children's Ministry can be presented by a leader back at home, after having qualified in the Children’s Ministry Mentorship course.
Cost of the Children’s Ministry Foundations courses:
Expense is kept to a minimum, as it covers mainly accommodation and meals. This is usually determined by the host church/organisation who will try to keep costs affordable. Petra College does not aim to make profit from it since it is a ministry.
2. Dynamic Children's Ministry (DCM) correspondence course:
The DCM correspondence course (modules 1,2 and 3) can be done alternatively to the equivalent of the Children’s Ministry Foundations courses.
