Achievements

  • Petra College submitted twenty-one unit standards on three different levels for official registration in 2004. These unit standards will become the official framework for all training in children's ministry in South Africa and beyond. This means that a training provider must use these unit standards if he wants to provide officially accredited training in children's ministry. At this stage the unit standards can be incorporated into other programmes, but we hope to soon register a full programme in children's ministry on a diploma level.

  • Petra College has 12 trained assessors, and two trained moderators. They completed all the requirements for registration and we are in the process of registering them officially. We are now in a position where we can officially assess our training in children's ministry, and provide official accreditation for credits earned. The moderators control the assessment to ensure that it meets all the requirements set by government.

  • Thousands of people from 50 countries have been trained in some aspects of children’s ministry since the inception of Petra College in 1989. They are working in 50 countries in Africa and beyond.

  • Hundreds of thousands of children in 50 countries have already benefited from the training provided by Petra College to their leaders.

  • Petra College is involved in a number of international networks and partnerships that promote international coordination in the work with children. It is an associate member of Viva Network, the largest network of organisations working with children at risk. It has also developed a working relationship with leading churches, ministries and organisations working with children.

  • Through partnership with a Christian Foundation, Petra College has been guaranteed the unconditional use of the premises on Petra Mountain. In addition to accommodating the administration of the College, the facilities provide full residential services for up to 30 students at a time.
